Ornella Fieres’ "Inverse Fourier" series consists of algorithmically altered found footage. The artist collects analog photographs from the turn of the 20th century - a time that was coined by a fascination of occultism in combination with technology - and uses a compression algorithm to process the scanned pictures. Her control over the outcome of the final image is limited as it plays with the potential autonomous mind of the machine. The original photograph for this work was taken in a Berlin sanatorium for Tuberculosis patients.
