Barnett Cohen's paintings, performances, and mixed media works collectively serve as meditations on the space between thought and the self and between the self and the body. Cohen's recent collage paintings are made from found stickers, a mass material most often used on our cars, our objects and our streets, to brand them with the identity of our choosing.
Stickers like these often act as self-declarations, but in these works, the overload of content—branding, language and pop culture references—mimics our experience in the digital realm, in which the constant stream of information and images can feel impossible to sort through.
