Are (Magenta, Red) began during a paper-making residency at Dieu Donné. Two sheets of magenta and red wet paper pulp were stretched on a loop made with copper tubing, like a drum. As the pulp dried, the shrinking paper warped the copper armature, creating the taut and twisted shape. The piece is like a door, a mirror, a mask, a distorted drum, or boomerang.
Fabienne Lasserre is a recent recipient of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. Educated at Concordia University in Montreal (B.F.A., 1996) and Columbia University, New York (M.F.A., 2004), Lasserre lives and works in Brooklyn NY.
