"Fresh Start" is a 2019 work by New York-based artist Brenda Goodman. She began this painting by using a linoleum cutter and a dremel drill to groove its surface with irregular, freeform lines, creating geometric sections which were then painted. This work is representative of some of Goodman's recent abstractions, which are characterized by their affective immediacy and their richness of texture and color. Goodman has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, and has exhibited in over two hundred group shows and forty solo shows in galleries and museums throughout the United States.
