Boulder at Sunset is a painting based on a first-person screenshot from Grand Theft Auto V. Rather than focusing on stealing cars, or more violent aspects of the game, Zefeldt turns his attention to a more serene place in the virtual space; the golden light of sunset hitting a boulder on the side of a freeway. Zefeldt’s practice of the painted multiple references Warhol's repeated images of everyday life and stereographic images like Magic Eye. Painting an image multiple times becomes a repetitive, almost meditative act, like saying a word so many times it starts to lose its meaning.
