ASMA is an artist duo comprising Ecuadorian artist Matias Armendaris (b. 1990) and Mexican artist Hanya Belia (b. 1994) living and working in Mexico City. The duo's experimental practice is interested in fusing opposites and seeks a plurality of understanding. "the mirror itself" sets stage at a bathroom sink in an unknown dimension with the presence of a strange being at a sink. The shifted planes and reflections invite the viewer into the outer realm the work inhabits as though stepping through 'the mirror itself.' The work is a pyrographed drawing made over banak wood with copper inserts.
